Mohawk College’s Fit for Future Competition Growing

Mohawk College hosted the second annual Fit for Future event at their Brantford Campus on Elgin Street.

The event is directed and organized by Mohawk’s Justice and Wellness Studies department, with the help of staff and students. The purpose of the annual program is to expose high school students to the sorts of physical testing that is required to be completed by those pursuing studies in emergency services. Examples of emergency services include, but are not limited to, RCMP, firefighting, policing, and security.

The Fit for Future testing consisted of six challenges, each focusing on one or more athletic ability, including speed and agility, aerobic strength, physical endurance and mental focus. Although quite difficult compared to a teenager’s typical daily training routine, the Fit for Future challenge is designed to be less of an obstacle course and more of a learning experience.

“We’ve condescend [the fitness tests] to make them a little bit shorter and not so challenging for the students here today, but just to give them an idea as to what the emergency services protocols are like if they’re interested in that field of study.” says Niki Macpherson, Technologist at Mohawk’s Justice and Wellness Studies.

The faculty representatives and event participants were all pleased to see that attendance increased since Fit for Future was launched last year. “We have far more teens this year than we did last year,” says Niki, “and considering that it’s a rainy day, we’re still very successful, so the event is growing for sure.”

The Justice and Wellness Studies department is part of Mohawk College’s Faculty of Community and Urban Studies, and includes programs in Policing, Message Therapy, and Security and Investigation. With several interdisciplinary and community courses, the faculty offer students a variety of diploma, certificate, and apprenticeship programs that lead directly into corresponding career paths.

About BioCell Collagen® CG (cosmetic-grade):

BioCell Collagen® CG is a patented naturally-occurring matrix of hydrolyzed collagen peptides and low molecular weight glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronic acid (HA). Collagen and HA are essential structural components in the skin dermis and responsible for the skin's moisture, suppleness, elasticity, and beauty. These molecules degrade as we age contributing to disarray or collapse of the dermal matrix structure, resulting in aged skin appearance. BioCell Collagen® CG promotes skin beauty by supplying essential molecules in the skin and also by inhibiting an enzyme called hyaluronidase that degrades HA.

About BioCell Technology:

Founded in 1997, BioCell Technology, LLC is the exclusive supplier of BioCell Collagen® and BioCell Collagen® CG. BioCell Technology, LLC owns the exclusive rights to market BioCell Collagen® under the United States Patents #6,025,327, 6,323,319, 6,780,841, 7,091,180. Author, speaker Lydia Johnson advises Canadian Chartered Accountants about Self Leadership, our Most Important Leadership Role

“Own your decisions and choices,” says Lydia Johnson, author of The JalapeƱo Handshake, a guide to business relationships. Johnson made these comments to a group of professional certified accountants in a recent presentation she did on self leadership. According to Johnson, the best results we ever achieve are the times when we make what we feel is the best decision or choice, then commit fully to it.

Johnson recommends that we make “two mind” decisions. “Don’t waste energy on doubt,” she told the group. She suggests that instead attendees expend their energy on gathering information and coming up with ideas (using the “conscious mind,”) then seeing if the ideas conform to their core beliefs and principles and feel right (using the “subconscious mind.”) Discard ideas that feel wrong. The conscious mind can rationalize any decision, even poor ones. The subconscious mind, on the other hand, knows when an idea is bad.
Johnson suggests asking questions to make better decisions:

Do I have to make this decision? Often our circle of interest is larger than our circle of “need to make a decision-ness.” People sometimes make decisions that they really don’t need to make – and these decisions often wind up wrong.

Am I missing something important? This question is a matter of balance. Too little information and we may make an uninformed decision. Too much research and we suffer from “paralysis by analysis.” Look for the Goldilocks solution of “just right.”

Am I willing to own this decision? Johnson suggested to attendees that they imagine presenting the decision to someone whose opinion they respect, then imagine the response. The body – lungs bursting with pride or stomach churning in shame – will respond with the answer.

Outlook Recovery Wizard: Simple, Fast .PST File Recovery & Easy Conversion of .OST to .PST Formats

OutlookImport.com is the market leading developer of Microsoft Outlook utilities which make using email faster, simpler and more flexible announces the launch of a flagship utility – Outlook Recovery Wizard. Outlook Recovery Wizard is an extremely simple email toolkit which allows for full .PST/.OST recovery when you have an issue with corrupted or damaged email archives.

Outlook Recovery Wizard (http://www.outlookrecoverywizard.com) performs a deep file scan of the affected .PST or .OST file and identifies the signatures, headers and underlying basic data units of the email file. It will then seek to repair the file by matching the identified indices with the located data. This is then presented to the user as a preview of the recovered file – if the user approves, the data and indices are formed into an output file in a .PST format which can then be read by Microsoft Outlook (including the old .PST format used by Outlook 2003).

Outlook Recovery Wizard also provides the ability to read and view .PST files without using Microsoft Outlook at all. You can examine the contents of emails using Outlook Recovery Wizard as a viewer, which is extremely useful when you do not have Outlook to begin with or need to examine file in a closed environment without the risk of infecting your email archive by running a suspect file through Outlook.
Outlook Recovery Wizard comes with an optional one or two year warranty and is available by online download or by optional hard copy CD-ROM disk.

In addition, you might find it useful to take a look at our Outlook Import Wizard (http://www.outlookimportwizard.com) which provides the ability to convert different kind of email files. Conversion preserves the file and folder structure, including attachments, bookmarks and folder order – this powerful feature allows you to transfer your email archives over from Outlook Express to the full Microsoft Outlook version without any interruption in your ability to utilize the email archives and information contained therein.
